Karensa's Paceline Challenge
Story
Paceline has developed since the six friends shown in the video below rode to Sydney to raise awareness about cardiac arrhythmias. This is my first Paceline challenge, in which I hope to raise $4800 and promote awareness about cardiac arrhythmias, a leading cause of stroke in Australia.
The 2014 Paceline sees me riding approximately 1200km around Victoria in 8 days. Not only do I feel privilleged and excited to consider this challenge possible, it follows my passion of science to support a field of important medical research that so often sits in the shadows.
The money I raise will assist Paceline in raising awareness and helping to fund the research of scientists at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, two world class facilities committed to improving the lives of sufferers and ultimately finding a cure.
And it has made a difference....
As a result of funds raised through Paceline, I know first hand a Baker IDI research team that was able to investigate whether a novel small compound could improve episodes of arrhythmia in a preclinical model. The team demonstrated that this novel drug reduced electrical abnormalities of the heart, episodes of arrhythmia and improved heart pathology associated with atrial fibrillation.
Without funding from Paceline, this important research would not have been undertaken.
Please help me to make a difference to the lives of thousands of Australians.
Activity
Paceline INC
Paceline is a charity that raises awareness and funds for cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats). The funds gathered through Paceline are directed to research which enhances our understanding of these debilitating disorders. With more than 400,000 Australians having one kind of cardiac arrhythmia or another, and this number constantly growing, it is essential that every effort is made to promote understanding and develop treatments. Having funding will allow us to better understand why cardiac arrhythmias occur, enabling us to develop cures whilst also producing strong rehabilitation programmes to change the lives of the people with these conditions. Please help us achieve our objective by donating funds to assist with the research of our world class research facilities, Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
